“Helen Hunt Jackson Returns” January 25

Meet famous 19th-century author at Rancho Camulos

Experience bestselling author Helen Hunt Jackson’s January 23, 1882 visit to Rancho Camulos, which inspired her to include this vestige of the California lifestyle as one of the settings for her novel Ramona.

On Saturday, January 25 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., reenactors will engage and delight you as they portray this event that forever changed the peaceful life at Rancho Camulos and brought tourists from across the nation to Southern California in search of the Californio lifestyle.

By popular demand, this year’s annual reenactment has been expanded to two performances — and a “meet and greet” reception with Helen Hunt Jackson and the Del Valle family will follow each one.

The suggested donation for the reenactment is $10. Tickets can be reserved by calling 805-521-1501, or purchased at the gate.

The museum is located on Highway 126, 10 miles west of the I-5 freeway near Piru.
